01 · Overview

One place to find your place.

Campus Connect is a concept for a university social platform that helps students build meaningful connections, discover campus events, and find academic and social support.

Inspired by online communities such as campus Reddit pages, the experience personalizes content around each student's major, interests, and goals.

02 · Problem

Campus life is full of opportunity—and fragmented information.

Students often struggle to connect beyond their immediate circles. Clubs, events, resources, academic support, and career opportunities live across disconnected platforms, making it difficult to stay informed and engaged.

03 · Solution

A personalized community hub.

Campus Connect brings discovery and connection together in one student-centered experience.

  • Discover campus events and opportunities
  • Connect with classmates and peers
  • Join interest-based communities
  • Find roommates and support
  • Receive personalized recommendations

04 · My role

Designing the experience together.

06 · User persona

20

Sophia

A student who wants to make friends beyond her major while becoming more active on campus.

Goals

  • Make friends outside her major
  • Attend more campus events
  • Build a strong resume
  • Find internships

Pain points

  • Too many clubs and organizations
  • Outdated or scattered event information
  • Balancing academics, networking, and social life

07 · Competitive analysis

Four strengths. One platform.

SafetyCommunity BuildingMultifunctional DesignUser Experience

The team compared existing university community platforms to identify gaps and opportunities. Campus Connect was designed to bring all four strengths into one cohesive experience.

08 · Ethical considerations

Community design comes with responsibility.

Privacy & consent

Give students meaningful control over personal data and recommendation inputs.

Transparency & bias

Make personalization understandable and reduce exclusionary recommendation patterns.

Community wellbeing

Support thoughtful moderation, healthy participation, and pathways to report harm.

Anonymity & accountability

Protect honest expression without compromising the safety of the wider community.

09 · Reflection

Designing community means designing for trust.

This project strengthened my understanding of how user research, personas, competitive analysis, and ethical considerations work together to create inclusive digital communities. I learned to balance engagement with privacy, safety, usability, and student wellbeing.
